Selsey RNLI Launched to Unmanned Vessel off Bognor Regis

Unmanned vessel Unmanned vessel

The UK Coastguard requested the launch of both Selsey Lifeboats after receiving information about an unmanned vessel close to Bognor Rocks.

The inshore Lifeboat (ILB) launched at 9.35 a.m. on Sunday 19th June (Father’s Day) closely followed by the all-weather Lifeboat (ALB). At the time of launching the weather was wind NNE force 5, sea state moderate in sunshine. The ILB made fairly good progress in the uncomfortable conditions. Both Lifeboats arrived on scene together with the ALB standing off from the rocks while the ILB closed the vessel to find one man onboard with another two in the water.

The man onboard the vessel said they had all been diving leaving the boat unoccupied during that time, but the vessel did have a diving pennant showing. This was reported to the Coastguard who were happy that it was a false alarm with good intent and released both the Lifeboats at 10.05 a.m. to return to station. Both boats returned to Selsey at 10.25 a.m. with the ILB recovered first followed by the ALB.

ILB CREW: Harry Emmence (Helmsman), Craig Sergeant, and Neil Hopcraft.

ALB CREW: Colin Pullenger (Coxswain), Andy Lee (Mechanic), James Albrey, Max Wiseman, Kristina Dolan, and Tom Davidson.
