Unmanned Boat Spotted by Yacht Off Selsey Bill

The UK Coastguard requested the launch of the Selsey RNLI all-weather Lifeboat (ALB) after they received a call from a yacht reporting that they had found an unmanned boat. The position of the yacht was two miles south of Selsey Lifeboat station.

At 10.45 a.m. on Monday 18th April the ALB launched, made best speed to the location and was quickly on scene at 10.50 a.m. The weather on scene was wind force one, sea state calm in sunshine. The Lifeboat came alongside the small boat which had a name on the stern which was passed to the Coastguard. The Coastguard reported that a yacht had reported it missing. The Lifeboat was asked to take the boat back to Selsey and was released from the incident.

The Lifeboat returned to station at 11.40 a.m. and was recovered straight away. The Coastguard informed the Coxswain that the owner would be picking up the boat.
