At 6.00 p.m. on Sunday 24th October the inshore Lifeboat launched after the UK Coastguards had received multiple reports of a red flare siting in the Pagham Harbour area.
The inshore Lifeboat with a crew of three made best speed to the Pagham Harbour entrance. The Littlehampton Coastguard Rescue team were also tasked to the Pagham side of the harbour. Whilst the Selsey inshore Lifeboat was on route they sighted a red flare that was inside the harbour but they were unable to enter the harbour due to low water. The weather on scene was wind westerly force 4, sea state moderate.
The Helmsman requested the Selsey Coastguard Rescue Team's attendance to search the inside of the harbour on the Selsey side. With the inshore Lifeboat unable to enter the harbour and the Coastguards receiving another report of a flare definitely inland, the inshore Lifeboat was stood down at 7.14 p.m. The inshore Lifeboat returned to station at 7.28 p.m. and was recovered straight away.
