The two persons were cut off at the Medmerry nature reserve on the west side of Selsey. They had made a 999 emergency call to the UK Coastguard reporting their predicament.
The inshore Lifeboat (ILB) launched at 8.26 p.m. on Monday 16th August with a crew of three volunteers and made best speed to the entrance of the reserve. At 8.34 p.m. the ILB arrived on scene and could see the two persons but were unable to get the Lifeboat close to them and so it was beached and two Lifeboat crew members walked to the casualty’s position. The weather on scene was wind northwest force 4-5, sea state moderate in a clear sky.
At 8.50 p.m. the two crew members returned with the two persons, and they were taken aboard the ILB and transferred to West Beach to meet the Selsey Coastguard Rescue team who gave the two persons safety advice. The ILB returned to station and was recovered at 9.11 p.m.
