The UK Coastguards requested the launch of both boats after receiving reports that a catamaran had capsized off Pagham beach and there were multiple persons in the water.
The inshore Lifeboat (ILB) was first to launch at 3.50 p.m. followed by the all-weather Lifeboat (ALB) shortly afterwards. The volunteer crews made best speed to the area. The ILB was first on scene just before the ALB. The Coastguard helicopter Rescue 175 and Selsey Coastguard Rescue Team were also tasked. The ILB confirmed that the vessel had been righted and, after coming alongside, the catamaran confirmed that all persons were accounted for. With that information passed to the UK Coastguards all units were stood down. The weather on scene was wind SSW force 4, sea state smooth in sunshine.
The Lifeboats were requested to monitor the vessel's progress for a short time before departing the scene to return to station. Both Lifeboats returned to station at 4.30 p.m. and were recovered, washed down, refuelled and made ready for service.
