UK Coastguard requested the immediate launch of the 'D' class inshore lifeboat after a spear fisherman reported that he had lost contact with his friend who was fishing with him off of the Bill point at Selsey.
The inshore Lifeboat (ILB) launched at 4.46 a.m. on Thursday 24th June and made best speed to the area however, just as the ILB arrived on scene, the Coastguards reported that the missing man had returned to the beach. The weather on scene was wind northwest force 2, sea state calm in clear sky. The ILB returned to station and was recovered, washed down and made ready for service.
