Selsey Inshore Lifeboat Rescues Man from the Sea
UK Coastguards paged the Selsey RNLI Lifeboat crew at 3.12 p.m. on Wednesday 28th September. They requested that the inshore Lifeboat launch to a report of a person in the water close to Bognor Regis pier.
The D-class Lifeboat (ILB) launched with a crew of three volunteers at 3.20 p.m. and proceeded at best speed to the pier. While en route the Coastguards updated the position saying that the casualty was just to the west of the pier and approximately 300 metres off shore. The weather on scene today was wind west south west force 5, sea state moderate in cloudy sky.
At 3.31 p.m. the ILB arrived on scene and the casualty was quickly spotted. Once alongside him he was recovered to the ILB and taken straight to the beach where SECAmb and Sussex police were waiting. After handing the casualty over to the paramedics at 3.36 p.m. the ILB was released to return to station.
Littlehampton RNLI lifeboat and Littlehampton Coastguards were also tasked to this incident but stood down en route. The Selsey ILB arrived back at station at 4.10 p.m. and was rehoused straight away.
