UK Coastguards (Dover) paged the crew at 12.00 p.m. on Saturday 17th September after an emergency call from a mobile phone stating that a 16-foot white day boat was drifting 500 metres off of Bunn Leisure.
The D-class inshore Lifeboat (ILB), 'Betty and Thomas Moore', launched at 12.07 p.m. with a crew of three volunteers and proceeded to the given position. After a short search the vessel was found at 12.26 p.m. nearly a mile (1600 metres) off shore.
The two people on the vessel were OK but unable to start their main engine and the small auxiliary engine wasn't powerful enough against the tide. The weather on scene was wind North North West force 4-5, sea state moderate in cloudy skies.
A tow was established between the two vessels and at 12.30 p.m. the ILB started to tow the craft back to the launching ramp at East Beach, Selsey. The Helmsman of the ILB said that the vessel had no VHF radio, flares or lifejackets; all basic safety aids.
After arriving at the ramp at 13.25 p.m. the casualties were left in the hands of the Selsey Coastguard unit and the ILB returned to station, rehousing at 13.29 p.m.
CREW: Rob Archibald (Helmsman), Will Moir and Andy Lee.
