Missing Diver

Uk Coastguard (Dover) requested both Selsey Lifeboats to launch at 3.48 p.m. on Saturday 27th August 2016. The dive boat 'Huntress 4' had reported a diver from his vessel had failed to resurface after a drift dive.

The volunteer crew mustered, both boats launched at 4.01 p.m. and proceeded to the position given by the dive boat, which was 3 miles north-east of the Lifeboat station. Both Littlehampton RNLI Lifeboats and the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter from Lee-on-Solent were sent to the incident. The 'Huntress 4' and the charter vessel, 'Final Answer', also assisted in the search.

The weather on scene was wind south easterly 2-3 sea state smooth in hazy sunshine. The area was comprehensively searched by all units with unfortunately nothing found. At 9.10 p.m. all the search units were stood down and returned to their stations. The Selsey inshore Lifeboat (ILB) rehoused straight away and the all-weather Lifeboat rehoused at 11.20 p.m. due to tidal restrictions, with both boats washed down and refuelled by 12.05 a.m. on the 28th August.

AWL CREW: Martin Rudwick (Coxswain), Willy Pledger (2nd Coxswain), Colin Pullenger (Mechanic), Max Gilligan, Dan Langford and Steve Somner.

ILB CREW: James Albery (Helmsman), Gary Pearce and Andy Lee.
