The volunteer crew at Selsey were paged at 5.24 p.m. on 22nd March 2016 by UK Coastguards who had received reports of a paraglider crashing in the area of the new Medmerry nature reserve. The inshore Lifeboat was about to launch when the Coastguards cancelled the launch. The crew today were Gary Pearce (Helmsman), Max Wiseman and Harry Emmence (Trainee).
On the following day, 23rd March 2016, the UK Coastguard requested the inshore Lifeboat be launched to assist the local Coastguard recover the paraglider equipment from the previous incident. This was done at 11.30 a.m. at high tide.
