Selsey Lifeboat Searches Area After Red Flare Report

Selsey RNLI Lifeboat crew were paged at 8.58 p.m. on Saturday 1st November 2014 at the request of Solent Coastguard. They had received a report from Pagham Yacht Club of a red flare sighting.
The Tyne class lifeboat 'Voluntary Worker' with its volunteer crew launched at 9.11 p.m. and proceeded to a position south of Pagham Harbour. The weather on scene was wind south-south west force 6-7 and a moderate sea state with clear skies and good visibility. The Coastguards requested that the Lifeboat searched from that position close inshore towards Littlehampton using radar and search lights. Littlehampton Lifeboat was launched at 9.30 p.m. to assist and started their search at the entrance to Littlehampton Harbour heading towards Pagham.
Selsey Lifeboat had no contacts on radar and nothing visible, and Littlehampton Lifeboat reported no sightings other than a considerable amount of firework displays going on along the coast. At 9.53 p.m. Solent Coastguards called off the search requesting that both Lifeboats return to their stations.
After returning to station the Lifeboat was rehoused at 10.40 p.m., washed down and refuelled by 11.00 p.m.
