Selsey Lifeboat Goes to Aid of Fishing Vessel with Machinery Failure

Selsey RNLI Lifeboat launched at 1.31 p.m. on 25th September 2014 to go to the assistance of the 7-metre commercial fishing vessel 'Lady P' who had reported that their engine had failed to start. 'Lady P' had three people aboard and was 12 miles south-south east of Selsey Bill.
The Tyne class Lifeboat 'Voluntary Worker' with its crew of volunteers headed for the position and arrived on scene at 2.09 p.m. A tow was established between the Lifeboat and the 'Lady P' and a course was set for Langstone Harbour. The weather on scene was wind westerly force 5-6 with a moderate to rough sea state in cloudy sky.
The entrance to Langstone Harbour was reached at 5.30 p.m. The tow was shortened to make it easier to tow the vessel close to the mooring in order to pick it up. This was completed successfully and once 'Lady P' was safely secured on the mooring the Lifeboat was released to return to Selsey leaving Langstone Harbour at 6.00 p.m.
'Voluntary Worker' arrived back at station at 7.13 p.m. and rehoused straight away, with the boat washed down refuelled and ready for service at 8.05 p.m.
