RNLI Selsey Help Five Girls Cut Off by the Tide at Pagham Harbour

Selsey volunteer Lifeboat crew were paged at 6.26 p.m. on 21st July 2014. Solent Coastguard had received an emergency call from a female saying her friends were stuck on Norton spit in the entrance to Pagham harbour.
The 'D' class Inshore Lifeboat 'Betty and Thomas Moore' launched at 6.34 p.m. and arrived on scene at 6.44 p.m. The weather was calm with a smooth sea in bright sunshine. The girls were quickly located and they and their rubber dinghy were taken aboard the Lifeboat. The girls were taken back to the beach on the Pagham side and left in the care of the Littlehampton Coastguard team for a safety talk.
The girls said that they had left with another group of girls in another dinghy to cross to Norton and when it came to return the other dinghy set off first and made it across, but with the flooding tide the girls left on the beach decided against attempting the crossing.
The Inshore Lifeboat was released at 6.47 p.m to return to station, arriving back at 6.59 p.m. and rehousing straight away.
