Both Selsey Lifeboats Launched to Missing Divers

Selsey RNLI volunteer crew were paged for the second time on Sunday 20th July 2014. Solent Coastguard had received an emergency call from the dive boat 'Mek' saying he had two divers overdue surfacing and missing. The 'Mek' was 1 mile south of the Mixon pole.

The 'D' class Inshore Lifeboat 'D675' launched at 6.28 p.m. quickly followed by the Tyne class Lifeboat 'Voluntary Worker' at 6.30 p.m. Bembridge RNLI Lifeboat and the HM Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 104 were also proceeding to join the search. The weather on scene was wind south west force 2-3 with a smooth sea and excellent visibility.

At 6.35 p.m. Solent Coastguard requested all units to stand down as the two divers had been spotted and picked up by another dive boat safe and well. Both Selsey Lifeboats returned to station and were rehoused and washed down.
