Selsey RNLI Volunteer Lifeboat crew were paged at 5.42 p.m. on Thursday 3rd July 2014. Solent Coastguard had requested the launch of the inshore boat to search for a missing jet skier.
The reserve Lifeboat 'D675' was launched at 5.51 p.m. and started searching straight away. The jet skier had been with two other jet skiers who had arrived at Selsey at 4.00 p.m. from Littlehampton however, on the return journey, one of them got separated from the others and didn't make it back. The weather was calm with bright sunshine.
The call was made to the Coastguards after concerns that the jet ski might have broken down. Littlehampton Lifeboat, which was on exercise, was also asked to search towards Selsey. At 6.02 p.m. the other two jet skiers called Solent Coastguard to report they had found the missing jet ski off of Climping, just to the west of Littlehampton.
The Lifeboats were stood down at 6.04 p.m. and Selsey Inshore lifeboat returned to the station, arriving back at 6.20 p.m. and rehousing straight away. Littlehampton Lifeboat continued their exercise.
