Selsey Lifeboat Tows Charter Angling Boat After Engine Fails

Selsey RNLI Volunteer Lifeboat crew towed the charter angling boat 'Torbay Belle' after the engine seized and the two men on board requested assistance from Solent Coastguard.

The crew were paged at 18:34 and the Tyne class 'Voluntary Worker' launched at 18:46 proceeding to the 'Torbay Belle'. They had given their position as a navigation mark close to the entrance to Chichester Harbour. When the lifeboat arrived on scene at 19:20 they found they had drifted to the west of the entrance. A towline was established between the lifeboat and the angling vessel. The lifeboat towed the vessel to Langstone Harbour where they had a mooring. At 19:50 the entrance to Langstone Harbour was reached and the 'Torbay Belle' was safely on her mooring at 20:24. The lifeboat departed Langstone Harbour at 20:40, arriving back at Selsey at 21:40 and rehousing straight away.
