Selsey All Weather Lifeboat 'Voluntary Worker' was tasked by Solent coastguard at 12:29 to assist the 31-foot angling vessel 'Esk Lady' which had a major oil leak and unable to run its engine in a position 5.5 Nm SSE of Selsey Bill.

'Voluntary Worker' was launched at 12:38, on scene at 13:00 and a tow was passed. The vessel, which was based in Bembridge on the Isle of Wight, arranged for a colleague to take over the tow just east of Bembridge Harbour, so a course was set for Bembridge. Arriving at 14:20, the tow was transferred and the Lifeboat was released to return to station at 14:25.

'Voluntary Worker' arrived back at station at 15:30, was rehoused, refuelled and made ready for service at 16:00.
