ILB Launched to Recover a Body

Selsey Inshore Lifeboat 'Betty and Thomas Moore' launched at 16:10 to assist in recovering the body of a female which had been found by a lone male angler out in his boat for the day.

The Lifeboat crew arrived on scene at 16:31 approximately one mile offshore from Bognor Pier. The Coastguard Rescue Helicopter arrived at the same time. The helicopter winch man quickly recovered the body into the aircraft and then transported it to Brighton Hospital Trauma Centre in case there was any chance of resuscitation.

'Betty and Thomas Moore' transferred one of her crew on to the angling boat to comfort the lone male angler who was badly affected by his experience. They then escorted the angler back to his launch site at Aldwick Beach Huts where he was passed over to waiting Coastguards and his family.

At 17:01 the Inshore Lifeboat and crew were released to return to station, arriving back at 17:20, was rehoused straight away and ready for service at 17:50.
