ILB Launched to Rescue Two Boys

Selsey RNLI Inshore Lifeboat 'Betty and Thomas Moore' launched at 18:04 at the request of Solent Coastguard to rescue two people cut off by the rising tide on the shingle island Kirkarrow on the west side of Selsey Bill.

When the ILB rounded the bill the two people were spotted by the lifeboat crew. The casualties were two teenage boys who were struggling to stay on their feet in the flooding tide. The lifeboat crew quickly took them aboard the lifeboat and started heading back to the shore.

On route back to shore the lifeboat crew arranged to meet with the Selsey Coastguard Rescue team at Hillfield Road beach, and hand the two boys safely over to them.

This was done, Solent Coastguard was informed, and they stood Selsey ILB down to return to station with thanks.

On returning to station the 'Betty and Thomas Moore' was rehoused straight away and made ready for service.

Rob Archibald (Helmsman) said "The boys were in a very precarious position and were very lucky not to be carried away in the flooding tide".

CREW: R.Archibald (Helmsman), W.Moir, Z.Belcher.
