Selsey All Weather Lifeboat 'Voluntary Worker' was launched at 17:28 to assist a 28-foot angling boat, 'White Osprey', with 2 persons on board and suffering from engine failure approximately 15 miles southeast of Selsey Lifeboat Station.
In fine weather the lifeboat arrived on scene at 18:10. A towline was passed to the casualty and at 18:23 a tow commenced towards Littlehampton Harbour. The entrance to the harbour was achieved at 20:09 and at 20:20 the 'White Osprey' and her crew were safely berthed alongside where they were met and assisted by the Littlehampton Coastguard team.
The 'Voluntary Worker' departed from Littlehampton Harbour at 20:31 and arrived back at Selsey Lifeboat Station at 21:02, rehoused straight away, and was made ready for service by 22:00.
CREW: M.Rudwick (Coxswain), R.Archibald (2nd Coxswain), M.Pledger (Mechanic), D.Lamdin, W.Moir, G.Pearce, C.Harvey.
WIND: Northeast 1. SEA: Calm. WEATHER: Good visibility.
Selsey RNLI Coxswain, Martin Rudwick, said "The angling boat, 'White Osprey', had a competent crew. Even though the sea state was calm, with a northeasterly force 1 wind and good visibility, it just goes to show that no matter how experienced you are or how well you may plan your journey, you never know when you will need the services of the RNLI. That’s why the RNLI exists – to help people in difficulties like this."
N.B. While out on this service call, the crew were lucky enough to encounter a pod of dolphins. The following link will take you to a video taken at the time. Click here for that video.
