Launched to Assist 16-Metre Motor Launch 'Aestus'

Selsey All Weather Lifeboat 'Voluntary Worker' was launched at 03:56 to assist the 16-metre motor launch 'Aestus' with 3 persons on board suffering from steering failure approximately 6 miles south-southeast of Selsey Lifeboat Station.
The lifeboat arrived on scene at 04:21 and a towline was passed to the casualty. The three crewmen remained on board and at 04:29 a course was set for Shoreham Harbour. Progress was slow due to thick fog conditions and the weight of the casualty which was estimated to be approximately 50 tons. The two boats reached Shoreham Harbour at 08:12 and by 08:52 the 'Aestus' was safely berthed in the main lock in Shoreham Harbour.
'Voluntary Worker' departed from Shoreham Harbour at 09:01 and arrived back at Selsey at 10:32, rehoused straight away and made ready for service at 11:15.

N.B. The 'Aestus' is a former service port launch from Liverpool.
