Launched to Sinking Speedboat

Selsey inshore lifeboat Betty and Thomas Moore launched at 09:33 to assist a 16-foot speedboat reported sinking approximately 50 yards offshore from the boat launching ramp at East beach car park.

The lifeboat and crew were quickly on scene at 09:36 and found a 74-year old man who had tied the sinking boat to the beacon on the end of the breakwater and had managed to climb onto the beacon. The lifeboat crew quickly got the man into the lifeboat and ferried him to the beach where he was handed over to the local coastguard team. The man was shaken by his experience but otherwise unharmed.

The ILB stayed on scene and assisted the local coastguards and members of the public in recovering the submerged speed boat to the launching ramp on the beach.
At 10:24 the lifeboat left the scene to return to station arriving back at 10:28 rehousing straight away and was made ready for service once more at 10:45.
