Selsey inshore lifeboat Betty and Thomas Moore launched at 08:19 to assist the 23-foot yacht 'Aspen' with two male crew aboard which was aground on Kirk Arrow a shingle bank approximately 150 yards off shore from the end of Hillfield Road.
The lifeboat and crew reached the casualty at 08:24 and moored alongside. At 08:56 the yacht refloated on the incoming tide, the lifeboat escorted the 'Aspen' into safe water east of the bill Point then left the yacht and two men to continue their passage towards Brighton Marina.
The lifeboat arrived back at station at 09:15 and was ready for service again at 09:35.
