As Selsey all weather lifeboat "Voluntary Worker" was re-housing following her weekly exercise, Solent coastguard asked to go to the assistance of a 23ft Maxin 2300 powerboat, with 2 persons on board, that had damaged its drive by striking a submerged object off Bognor Regis while on passage from Brighton to Cowes.
Selsey lifeboat was on scene at 20:17, Acting Second Coxswain Colin Pullenger was put aboard, and rigged a bridle and tow. At 20:24 a course was set for Littlehampton harbour and a tow was commenced but, due to the male suffering sea sickness, the speed had to be reduced. At 21:50 Littlehampton harbour entrance was reached, the casualty was placed alongside at 22:00 and left with a local coastguard unit.
Selsey lifeboat departed Littlehampton harbour at 22:10, and returned to Selsey at 22:50, re housed at 23:00, and was refuelled and ready for service once more at 23:30
