Launched to Assist 7-Metre Yacht 'Lee Bijou'

Selsey all weather lifeboat Voluntary Worker launched at 16:56 to assist the 7-metre yacht 'Lee Bijou' with a crew of 2 male persons on board.
The small yacht and crew had crossed the Channel from France and had suffered engine failure approximately 4 miles southwest of Selsey Bill. The crew were very tired and cold and were struggling to make progress against the wind for the last few miles of their passage into Chichester Harbour.
The lifeboat arrived on scene at 17:11 and put 2nd Coxswain Willy Pledger aboard to assist in connecting a tow line. At 17:22, with the tow connected, a course for Chichester Harbour was set. The entrance to Chichester Harbour was reached at 18:05 and at 18:45 the casualty was safely berthed in Sparkes Marina and handed over to the care of Hayling Island Coastguards.
Voluntary Worker and her crew departed Sparkes Marina at 18:54 to return to station, arriving back at 19:30, rehoused straight away and were ready for service by 20:00.
