Investigating a Report of a Suspected Upturned Dinghy

Selsey’s inshore lifeboat (ILB) Betty and Thomas Moore launched at 8.04am to investigate a report from a member of the public who had spotted what was thought to be an upturned dinghy approximately half a mile offshore from the coastguard tower at the end of West Street.
The lifeboat crew were quickly on scene at 8.10am to find the reported object was in fact a very large radar scanner ariel obviously lost at some time from a large ship. As the scanner was approximately 3 metres long it was recovered and brought back to the lifeboat station to prevent further possible sightings and reports.
Arriving back on station with its cargo at 8.36am Betty and Thomas Moore was recovered straight away and once again made ready for service by 9.05am.
