Yacht 'Frejya' Taking on Water

Selsey’s all weather lifeboat (ALB) Voluntary Worker and the inshore lifeboat (ILB) Betty and Thomas Moore launched at 11:32am to assist the 9.5 metre solo-handed yacht ‘Frejya’ reported to be taking on water in a position approximately two miles southwest of the lifeboat station.
Both lifeboats arrived on scene at 11:39am and an ALB crew member with a pump was transferred via the ILB on to the casualty to assess the situation. It was quickly established that the level of water was negligible and that a pump was not required. The lone yachtsman on board Frejya was by now tired and stressed by the event so it was agreed that the best course of action was for Voluntary Worker to tow the casualty to Chichester Harbour.
At 11:55am the tow commenced at which time Betty and Thomas Moore was released to return to Selsey lifeboat station. Voluntary Worker reached the entrance to Chichester Harbour at 12:30pm and as the Frejya’s skipper wanted to go up to Chichester Marina the tow was handed over to Chichester Harbour Patrol.
Voluntary Worker was then released from service at 13:44pm but due to tidal conditions would not be able to rehouse at Selsey so remained in Chichester Harbour until 15:05pm. The ALB finally arrived back at Selsey lifeboat station at 15:50pm, was rehoused straight away and once more made ready for service by 16:30pm.
