Selsey RNLI relief inshore lifeboat (ILB) D-640 Mabel Davies launched at 1.38pm to assist a person reported by a passer by to be in difficulties approximately 100 yards offshore from the West Sands Ocean Bar, Selsey.
The ILB was quickly on scene by 1.43pm to find that the male swimmer had swum back ashore. On further investigation talking to the man it turned out he was not in any trouble at all and had been enjoying his daily exercise.
With everything OK the lifeboat and volunteer crew were released by Solent Coastguard to return to station at 1.49pm, arriving back at 2pm.
The ILB was recovered straight away and once again made ready for service by 2.15pm.
