Selsey all weather lifeboat Voluntary Worker launched at 15:31 at the request of Solent Coastguard after a passing angling boat had reported the 19-foot yacht Blue Moon to be in difficulties with three male persons on board three miles south of the station.

The lifeboat arrived on scene at 15:46 and quickly passed a towline. A course was set for Chichester Harbour, about ten minutes into the tow one of the crew on Blue Moon reported to be suffering from sea sickness. The man was brought aboard the lifeboat and quickly felt better.

The entrance to Chichester Harbour was reached at 17:17. Due to the low water tidal conditions a work boat from Sparkes Marina came out to meet the casualty and tow them into the marina which would have been inaccessible to the lifeboat. The Voluntary Worker departed to return to station arriving back at 1755, rehoused straight away and was ready for service once more at 18:15.
