Launch to Assist 30-Foot Yacht Sapphire with Loss of Engine Power

Selsey all weather lifeboat Voluntary Worker launched at 1915 to go to the assistance of the 30’ yacht Sapphire which had suffered engine failure approximately 4nm WNW of Selsey Bill. Unable to negotiate a safe harbour under sail alone, they called for assistance.
The lifeboat arrived on scene at 1945 and a tow was attached. At 1951 a course was set for Chichester Harbour and the harbour entrance was reached at 2020.At 2041 the tow was passed to Hayling Island lifeboat which was already afloat and the Sapphire was taken to Sparkes Marina and safely berthed alongside.
Voluntary Worker departed Chichester Harbour at 2045 arriving back at station at 2130, rehoused straight away and was made ready for service once more at 2200.
