Selsey inshore lifeboat (ILB) Betty and Thomas Moore launched at 12.32pm to assist the 22 foot motor boat ‘Aquaholic’ with 2 male crew on board which had struck the Mixon Rocks and lost its propeller.

The ILB found the casualty at 12.48pm approximately one and a half miles southeast of the lifeboat station. Due to the weather conditions and the fact that ‘Aquaholic’ needed towing to a safe harbour the ILB called for the assistance of the Selsey all weather boat (ALB) 'Voluntary Worker'.

'Voluntary Worker' was launched at 12.58pm and joined the ILB on scene with the casualty at 1.06pm. A tow was established and a course set for Littlehampton Harbour. At this time the 'Betty and Thomas Moore' was released to return to station.

The entrance to Littlehampton Harbour was reached at 2.50pm and by 3.15pm ‘Aquaholic’ was safely berthed on the visitor’s pontoon. 'Voluntary Worker' left Littlehampton at 3.20pm and arrived back at the lifeboat station by 4pm. She was rehoused straight away and made ready for service once again by 4.30pm.
