Selsey inshore lifeboat (ILB) Betty and Thomas Moore launched at 3.47pm to assist a 10 year old girl, her 41 year old father and their dog in difficulties after their canoe capsized approximately 250 yards outside the entrance to Pagham Harbour.
Betty and Thomas Moore was on scene at 3.57pm to find that the young girl had been rescued and taken ashore by a kite boarder. Also the father was being assisted by a windsurfer by clinging to his surfboard. The dog had swum ashore unaided.
The lifeboat crew pulled the man aboard the ILB and carried him to the beach to join his daughter who was then given first aid in the form of oxygen therapy by the ILB crew until an ambulance and paramedics arrived to take her to hospital for a thorough check up.
Finally at 4.25pm the lifeboat was released to return to station. Arriving back at 4.33pm the Betty and Thomas Moore was rehoused straight away and was once more ready for service at 5.00pm.
