Selsey inshore lifeboat (ILB) Betty and Thomas Moore launched at 0:17am to investigate a report from a member of the public of someone being thrown into the sea at the end of Lifeboat Way.
The ILB was on scene at 0:18am and searched close inshore from the lifeboat station round the Bill Point as far as Hillfield Road before moving out to sea approximately 200 yards and searching back towards the lifeboat station. At the same time local coastguard and police units searched the beach. The police spoke with the first informant a 90 year old lady who appeared to be somewhat confused but eventually it was established that there was nobody missing ashore or in the sea.
At 0:31am all units were released and the ILB arrived back at station at 0:35am, rehoused straight away and was ready for service once more at 1:00am.
