Selsey Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) Betty and Thomas Moore launched at 9:42am to assist in a search for a missing 55 year old female with potentially suicidal tendencies last seen in High Street, Selsey at 7:30am.
The ILB crew carried out a search along the shoreline and just offshore between Pagham Harbour and Bracklesham. Local coastguard teams and the police searched the beach and further inland whilst both the Sussex police helicopter and Coastguard Service helicopter Rescue 104 carried out searches over land and sea.
At 11:05am with nothing being found the lifeboat and crew were released to return to station, but remain at immediate readiness. This situation continued until 1:27pm when they were stood down from the search.
All the other agencies, however, continued searching until 3:28pm when the lady was found safe and well by Sussex police in the grounds of Chichester Cathedral, at which time all remaining search and rescue units were stood down.
