Yacht Katrina Aground on Kirk Arrow

Katrina Katrina

Selsey inshore lifeboat “Betty and Thomas Moore” launched at 1503 to assist the 29 foot yacht “Katrina” with one male person on board which had run aground on Kirk Arrow a shingle bank approximately 200 metres offshore from the end of Hillfield Road.

The ILB arrived on scene at 1509 and quickly attached a tow line onto the casualty. With the tide still rising the yacht was pulled off within a couple of minutes. The ILB requested the assistance of the all weather lifeboat to tow the casualty to Chichester Harbour; due to the poor visibility and the yacht Skipper’s uncertainty of where he was. The ILB towed the casualty east towards the lifeboat station and rendezvoused with the ALB approximately half a mile south-southwest of the station where at 1525 the tow was passed to them.

At 1530 the Betty and Thomas Moore was released to return to station, arriving back at 1533 rehoused straight away and was made ready for service once more at 1600.
