Speedboat 'A Touch of Class' Lost in Fog

touch of class

Selsey all weather lifeboat “Voluntary Worker” launched at 10:25am to go to the assistance of a 19 foot speedboat “A Touch of Class” lost in fog but thought to be approximately three miles south of Bognor with three men on board.

Shortly after “Voluntary Worker” launched the visibility improved this, coupled with using the lifeboat’s VHF radio direction finding equipment enabled the speedboat to be quickly located approximately 3 miles east north east of the Selsey lifeboat station.

Once “Voluntary Worker” was on scene a course was set for Littlehampton Harbour (where “A Touch of Class” had left earlier that morning) with the speedboat following the lifeboat. After both Boats had entered Littlehampton Harbour the speedboat proceeded unaccompanied up the River Arun to its berth in the marina. Due to tide and weather conditions “Voluntary Worker” was unable to rehouse at Selsey so remained in Littlehampton until 3:15pm, eventually arriving back on station by 4:00pm. The lifeboat was rehoused straight away and was again ready for service by 4:40pm.
