Selsey inshore lifeboat “Betty and Thomas Moore” launched at 20:03 to investigate a report from a member of the public of a kite boarder in difficulty approx 400 yards offshore from Pagham Yacht Club.
The ILB arrived on scene at 20:12 and carried out a search of the reported position and surrounding area but found nothing. At approximately 2017 Littlehampton Coastguard who was now on the beach at Pagham accompanied by the first informant reported to the ILB that the kite boarder was safely ashore at their position. The lifeboat Crew went ashore just to check the condition of the casualty who turned out to be fine and said that he wasn’t in trouble at any time. He had finished kite boarding and packed his gear up at sea then paddled ashore. A false alarm with good intent.
The ILB was released at 2021 to return to station arriving back at 2032 rehoused straight away and was ready for service by 2100.
