Yacht Entangled With Lobster Pot

Yacht entangled lobster Pot

Reserve All Weather Lifeboat ‘Lord Saltoun’ launched at 1950 hrs to assist a 14 metre yacht MLady which had fouled its rudder on a lobster pot line 4nm SS/E of Selsey bill with two persons on board

At 2014 hrs the Lord Saltoun arrived on scene and put a Crewman aboard to see if line could be cleared. Using a grappling hook the single pot was bought aboard but the line found to be around the rudder and unable to be cleared, so it was decided the best option was to tow the vessel to safety. A tow line and two towing bridles were passed and the RNLI Crewman set up the tow, and course was set of Chichester harbour.

At 2345 the lifeboat entered the harbour and at 0000 the casualty was placed on a safe mooring in Chichester harbour close to Hayling Island. At 0015 the ‘Lord Saltoun’ was released to return to station, arriving back at 0100hrs, re-housing straight away and was ready for service at 0115
