Selsey inshore lifeboat "Betty and Thomas Moore" launched 04:02, to assist Selsey Coastguard and Sussex Police search for a person in the water. The person was seen entering the water at the end of Hillfield road. The ILB arrived on scene at 04:13. Beginning the search straight away, along the shoreline and down tide.
Selsey Coastguard saw the casualty still in the water by Warner road launching ramp the lifeboat had almost searched that far so was able to quickly assist the casualty from the water, and hand him over to the coastguard. As the casualty (a Polish male) was very cold the lifeboat crew stayed on scene to help with first aid until the ambulance arrived. The lifeboat was released at 04.37 by Solent coastguard. Returning to station at 04.45
Selsey all weather lifeboat was made ready for sea and put on stand-by to help in the search if needed. Solent coastguard also asked the rescue helicopter to scramble. Both units were stood down when it was confirmed the casualty was clear of the water.
