Selsey Lifeboat Station - Launches

24th July 2009

41-Foot Yacht “Raggamuffin”

Selsey All weather lifeboat “Voluntary Worker” launched at 22.16 to assist the yacht "Raggamuffin". The skipper of the yacht was reporting an obstruction caught around the propeller and propeller shaft, which had caused the engine to stall. The three crew of the Raggamuffin felt unable to sail in the conditions and were unsure how much damage had been caused to the machinery.

The lifeboat arrived on scene, six miles South East of Selsey Bill at 22.50 and transferred a crewman to help drop the sails and prepare the yacht for towing. The tow was established and a course set for Chichester Harbour.

At 02.15 the entrance to the Harbour was reached and the yacht safely brought alongside the visitors pontoon by 03.00.

The lifeboat departed soon after and returned to station. Re-housing at 04.30 after a short wait for the tide to ease.
