7 Metre MFV "Suzy-Dee" Broken Down

Selsey all weather lifeboat ‘Voluntary Worker’ launched at 1206 to assist a 7 metre fishing catamaran Suzy-Dee out from Langstone Harbour. The "Suzy-Dee! had broken down, with two male persons on board, in a position approximately 15 miles southeast of the station.

The lifeboat arrived on scene at 1250 and a towline was passed. A course was then set for Littlehampton Harbour at a speed of 9 knots. The entrance of Littlehampton Harbour was reached at 1430. Once inside the harbour the "Suzy-Dee" was brought alongside and moored on the visitor’s pontoon at 1455.

The Lifeboat departed Littlehampton at 1500 to return to station. At 1526 a cry for help from a child was heard on the radio and a Direction Finding fix taken this was investigated as far as the beach at Pagham. With nothing being found it was thought to be a hoax. The lifeboat carried on back to station arriving back at 1545 and rehousing straight away was made ready for service once more at 1630.
