Selsey inshore lifeboat “Betty and Thomas” launched at 2010 to investigate reports of red flares sighted by members of the public in the vicinity of Pagham Harbour.
The lifeboat arrived on scene at 2020 and found nothing in sight. The local Coastguard team were now on scene on the beach and after interviewing some walkers it was thought that the flare was probably fired from inland. The ILB proceeded into the harbour just to make certain there was nothing untoward in that area. After more members of the public were spoken to it was obvious that the flare had been fired inland.
At 2040 all units were released to return to station. The lifeboat arrived back at 2105, recovered straight away and was ready for service once more at 2130.
