Selsey all weather lifeboat launched at 1613 to assist the 24-foot motorboat “Buddies” broken down approximately two miles southwest of the station.
The lifeboat arrived on scene at 1629 to find a family of three aboard their brand new boat only having picked it up that day from Brighton Marina. They were at anchor after their engine had stopped abruptly. Crewmember J. Albery was put aboard to assist in rigging a towing bridle and attaching the towline. At 1635 a tow towards Chichester Harbour was commenced. The harbour entrance was reached at 1748 and at 1800 once inside the harbour the casualty was brought alongside and then taken into Sparkes Marina where at 1825 the casualty was safely berthed on the visitor’s pontoon.
At 1840 the lifeboat departed Sparkes Marina to return to station, arriving back at 1920 and rehousing straight away, the lifeboat was made ready for service once more at 2000.
