Selsey ILB Peter Cornish launched at 1850 hrs to assist the 26-foot yacht, "Celtic Warrior", which had run aground on the foreshore west of the Selsey coastguard station. Coastguard mobile units were in attendance and had boarded the vessel. They reported that 4 persons had left the yacht and decamped from the scene.
In the confused seas, close to shore, a towline was successfully passed by the ILB to the coastguard team aboard the yacht and it was towed clear into deeper water.
At 1920hrs the tow was passed to Selsey all weather lifeboat, "Voluntary Worker", which towed the vessel to Itchenor Jetty in Chichester Harbour.
The ILB was released and returned to station at 2015hrs and was washed down and ready for service at 2035hrs.
