ILB D533 ‘Peter Cornish’ launched at 1857 hrs to assist a kite boarder reported to be in difficulties approximately 100 yards south of the Bill Point.
The casualty had been down in the water for approximately 20 minutes when he managed to ring his father using a waterproofed mobile phone. His father was in Cosham and when he answered his phone all he could hear was the sound of wind and water. He asked his son if he was in trouble who managed to reply with a single word ‘Coastguard’. The father immediately dialled 999 and told the coastguards the rough area where his son would probably be, which initiated the launch of the Lifeboat.
The ILB arrived on scene within a minute of launching. The casualty had taken a tumble which had resulted in him banging his head and receiving a slight graze. He was recovered along with his kite and board and taken straight to the beach where the local coastguards met and took care of him.
At 1915 hrs the ILB arrived back at station, recovered immediately and was ready for service at 1940 hrs.
