Inflatable Dinghy Being Swept Offshore by Wind and Tide

ILB D533 ‘Peter Cornish’ launched at 1635 hrs to assist a man, his son and a dog in a small inflatable dinghy being swept offshore by wind and tide.

The ‘Peter Cornish’ arrived on scene at 1642 hrs approximately half a mile offshore from the end of Warner Road, Selsey, and the three occupants were taken aboard the ‘Peter Cornish’ along with the inflatable dinghy. The three of them were landed at the Coastguard Station, Selsey at 1655 hrs where they were met by local coastguards.

It transpired that the three of them had come off the beach at Bracklesham and had been carried along to Selsey by the flood tide with the wind blowing them offshore.

After leaving the casualties on the beach the ‘Peter Cornish’ was then tasked to escort a small French yacht ‘Bulle D’ecume’ into safe water, having got too close to the shore.

At 1709 hrs, after taking the French yacht into deeper water, the ‘Peter Cornish’ was released to return to station, arriving back at 1714 hrs, recovering straight away and was ready for service at 1730 hrs.
