24-Foot Converted Ship’s Lifeboat ‘Bluebird’ Taking on Water

AWL 47-031 'Voluntary Worker' launched at 1845 hrs to assist a 24-foot converted ship’s lifeboat ‘Bluebird’ which had broken down and was taking on water with 2 male persons on board approximately 2 miles south-west of the Bill Point.

The ‘Voluntary Worker' arrived on scene at 1905 hrs and two crewmembers, Robert Archibald and Peter Delahunty were put aboard with a portable salvage pump and a towline was attached. Despite being repeatedly asked to put on a lifejacket the two occupants refused the advice. A course was set for Chichester Harbour where at 2100 hrs the casualty was berthed in Sparkes Marina and handed over to Hayling Coastguards.

The AWL 47-031 'Voluntary Worker' was released to return to station arriving back at 2144 hrs, rehoused straight away and was ready for service at 2215 hrs.
