AWL 47-031 ‘Voluntary Worker' launched at 1828 hrs to assist the 26-foot catamaran ‘Cariad’ which was broken down with one male person on board in a position approximately one and a quarter miles south of the station. The casualty was facing foul tide and wind and had tried to anchor. This was not holding so called for assistance before the situation worsened due to the close proximity of the Mixon Rocks.
The ‘Voluntary Worker' arrived on scene at 1838 hrs and connected a tow. A course was set for Chichester Harbour. At approximately 2030 hrs the ‘Voluntary Worker' rendezvoused with Hayling Island Lifeboat inside the harbour and passed the tow over to them and they continued towing the casualty onto its moorings at Emsworth Lake.
The ‘Voluntary Worker' was released at this time to return to station, arriving back at 2121 hrs and rehousing immediately.
