AWL 47-001 ‘CITY OF LONDON’ launched at 1815 hrs to assist a 16-year old boy in the water clinging to Bognor Pier suffering from a broken leg after jumping off the pier into shallow water.
At 1827 hrs a message was received from Solent Coastguard to say that the boy had been helped ashore by onlookers and was awaiting an ambulance. The ‘CITY OF LONDON’ was asked to continue proceeding in case there was a need to assist with radio communications. At 1850 hrs, after the casualty had been transported to hospital, Solent Coastguard released the ‘CITY OF LONDON’ to return to station. On the return journey an unmanned dinghy, which had broken from its moorings, was recovered and towed back to the beach at Selsey.
The Lifeboat rehoused at 2030 hrs and was ready for service at 2100 hrs.
