ILB D533 ‘PETER CORNISH’ launched at 1731 hrs to assist the 43-foot yacht ‘Jallapino’ with one male person board which had broken down in a position approximately 4 miles southeast of the station.
The yacht’s engine had suffered a split cooling pipe and there was no wind to sail the vessel. The skipper of the yacht had spoken to Solent Coastguard and given the dimensions of the pipe that needed replacing, the ILB crew took with them a selection of hoses and were alongside the casualty at 1908 hrs.
One of these hoses was suitable to repair the engine and by 1825 hrs the casualty was underway continuing his passage to Littlehampton. At 1834 hrs, after making sure that the repair was holding up, the ILB was released to return to station, arriving back at 1855 hrs and rehousing immediately. The ILB was ready for service at 1915 hrs.
CREW: Dave Lamdin (Helmsman), Peter Delahunty, Phil Pitham.
